Charities do a great deal of good and are an intrinsic part of our society. They attend to the needy in our communities and somehow manage to continue in spite of almost insurmountable odds. Sometimes a recession or even natural disasters make a charities tasks even more challenging.
Such is the case with the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter; it receives no government funding and its fiscal solvency is entirely dependent on the goodwill of the animal lovers in and around Winnipeg. Notwithstanding high local unemployment rates and the ever present demand for charity assistance elsewhere, the needs of our innocent pets continue. They still require accommodation, vet care, food, etc. all of which costs money. They still need tender loving care and arrangement of adoptions to loving homes to give them just a chance for a safe and quality life.
A special thanks to Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler from the Winnipeg Jets, for all of their support over the last few months. The meet and greet Helping Hero fundraiser that was held at the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter on March 17th, 2012 was a HUGE success. Hundreds of fans and pet lovers lined up outside for their chance to meet Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler as well as meet some of the many puppies and kittens staying at the shelter.
They also were very generous with their donations for the Survivor Gala that was held on April 26th, 2012. They graciously donated two team-signed Winnipeg Jets jerseys that were sold at the live auction that evening, with all of the proceeds going to the shelter.
